We are pleased to announce that the successful artist for The Art Park / Atlantic Artist Residency #6 is Thomas Campbell from the USA.

Thomas was born in Laguna Beach, California in 1969 and currently lives in Bonny Doon, California, USA. 

He is a self-taught painter, sculptor, photo­grapher, filmmaker and music producer. The nexus of Campbell’s creative centric life was nurtured by skateboarding culture in the 1980′s and 90′s.

Thomas grew up surfing and skating in southern California before moving to New York in the 1980s, where he immersed himself in the skate/street art/punk/hip hop/hell-raising scene that rotated around the central axis of Alleged Gallery. In that setting he came to know and be associated with the artists that would go on to make up San Francisco’s Mission School painters and the generation that would be at least loosely defined by the Beautiful Losers exhibition in 2004.

Campbell has mounted solo exhibitions in New York, Paris,Tokyo,Denmark, The Netherlands,San Francisco,Los Angeles, and Morocco. Currently Campbell spends most of his time in his home studio in Bonny Doon, California working on paintings, sculpture and other artistic junk. From 1997 to 2009 Campbell produced and directed three feature length surf films The Seedling, Sprout and The Present. The filming of which has taken him to the far corners of the earth (Indonesia,Cape Verde, Sri Lanka,South Africa and New Zealand to name a few).

Campbell is also the creative director of Galaxia, a small, independent record label based in Santa Cruz, Califor­nia, that he has run with his partner Greg Lamson since 1992. Galaxia has released recordings by artists such as Tommy Guerrero, The Mumlers, Ray Barbee, Peggy Honeywell, The Mattson 2, The Amalgamated Sons of Rest (Will Oldham, Jason Molina and Allister Roberts), Tomorrow’s Tulips and The Black Heart Procession. Most of these artist have appeared in the soundtracks to Campbell’s films or have played live at his various screenings and exhibitions.

There is a stunning exhibition of Margaret Olley paintings at Tweed River Art Gallery at the moment.

We spent a beautiful morning there last week.

Plans for the new extension are on display thanks to the Margaret Olley Trust.
