Helicopter 2

For those seeking some adventure on their Byron Bay escape, there are plenty of options on offer. From above, drift gently in a hot air balloon, duck and weave in a helicopter, soar like an eagle hang gliding or tandem parachuting. For those who like their feet firmly on the ground challenge yourself to a picturesque game of golf nearby on 120 acres of coastal habitat or a walk up to the Lighthouse. Feed your adventurous spirit and master mountain bike riding through sub tropical rainforest and white sand beaches. Do something you would never dream of doing and take that unforgettable leap of faith from a circus trapeze or find your sea legs as your world stands still watching the migration of the magnificent humpback whale. Have a mind altering experience kayaking alongside a school of dolphins and other wondrous creatures of the deep blue. Or simply do what the locals do day in day out and take a ride of a lifetime becoming one with the ocean and mastering those beautiful waves during one of the many surf school lessons.

Byron Bay is one of those rare magical places that have an indescribable feeling to it. A feeling that keeps you coming back again and again. Famously known for it’s eclectic mix of surfing culture, bohemian lifestyle and international flavour, Byron’s true trademark is her beauty. As the sun rises over this rugged Australian coastline the ocean crystallizes and the white sand shimmers. Dolphins share the morning line up while whales shadow the headland looking for home. The sky is blue and the air is fresh and there is nowhere else to be.

Byron Bays heart and soul are the beaches that surround her.  The heady mix of shimmering white sands, crystal clear turquoise blue waters and lush tropical headlands have made Byron’s beaches world famous. Stretching between the headlands of Northern New South Wales and wrapping around the country’s most easterly point, Byron Shire offers 30km of beaches ranging from the busy patrolled beaches near town to isolated coves and dog friendly beaches all within a 10-15min drive.

Surf legendary breaks, experience oceanfront dining or swimming and kayaking with the dolphins and whales. Time with friends, time alone. Sun on your face and sand underfoot. There is something here for everyone.

Thomas Campbell Artist Residency #6

We are pleased to announce that the successful artist for The Art Park / Atlantic Artist Residency #6 is Thomas Campbell from the USA.

Thomas was born in Laguna Beach, California in 1969 and currently lives in Bonny Doon, California, USA.

He is a self-taught painter, sculptor, photographer, filmmaker and music producer. The nexus of Campbell’s creative centric life was nurtured by skateboarding culture in the 1980′s and 90′s.

Thomas grew up surfing and skating in southern California before moving to New York in the 1980s, where he immersed himself in the skate/street art/punk/hip hop/hell-raising scene that rotated around the central axis of Alleged Gallery. In that setting he came to know and be associated with the artists that would go on to make up San Francisco’s Mission School painters and the generation that would be at least loosely defined by the Beautiful Losers exhibition in 2004.

Campbell has mounted solo exhibitions in New York, Paris,Tokyo,Denmark, The Netherlands,San Francisco,Los Angeles, and Morocco. Currently Campbell spends most of his time in his home studio in Bonny Doon, California working on paintings, sculpture and other artistic junk. From 1997 to 2009 Campbell produced and directed three feature length surf films The Seedling, Sprout and The Present. The filming of which has taken him to the far corners of the earth (Indonesia,Cape Verde, Sri Lanka,South Africa and New Zealand to name a few).

Campbell is also the creative director of Galaxia, a small, independent record label based in Santa Cruz, California, that he has run with his partner Greg Lamson since 1992. Galaxia has released recordings by artists such as Tommy Guerrero, The Mumlers, Ray Barbee, Peggy Honeywell, The Mattson 2, The Amalgamated Sons of Rest (Will Oldham, Jason Molina and Allister Roberts), Tomorrow’s Tulips and The Black Heart Procession. Most of these artist have appeared in the soundtracks to Campbell’s films or have played live at his various screenings and exhibitions.
